My father was a man of few words. Because he had lived a difficult life since childhood, he thought that people who expressed their emotions were weak and believed that one shouldn't do so.
When trying to put my mother's language of love into practice, I wanted to thank my father. But I didn't know how. That's because my father and I have almost never expressed our feelings or shared our hearts in everyday conversations.
So, before calling my dad, I took a deep breath and mustered up my courage. Then I said these words to him over the phone.
"Dad, you worked so hard to raise and educate me. Thank you."
I called at 10 p.m., but Dad had already been asleep for a while. He probably thought he misheard, so he was silent for a moment before briefly replying, "Yes."
I was a little disappointed because Dad didn't seem to like what he said.
However, a few days later, my mother called me.
"Dad was so happy that day! Mom wondered what you said to make him so happy for days, and he even told her that you thanked him for all his hard work. Dad said that his daughter has really grown up and now even thinks of him."
My mother also said that my father told the story with sparkling eyes and a joyful expression like a child. 🥰🥰🥰
The moment I heard those words, I felt incredibly happy. From then on, I was able to express my love for my parents more often and naturally.
Thanks to my mother's language of love, the relationship between me and my father also became closer. My father gradually opened up and began to express his joy and longing for his daughter, no longer hiding it as before.
If I hadn't practiced the language of love back then, perhaps the relationship between me and my father would still be as cold as ice. And I probably wouldn't have known that my father had such a warm heart.
I realized that even a small thank you can melt away the wall between hearts and make family relationships warmer.
I want to put Mother's language of love into practice in the future and express even more love and gratitude to my family and everyone around me. 🌷
