Recently, my workplace hosted an event welcoming the City’s Police Department. It was an opportunity to connect with the officers, build stronger relationships, and simply enjoy coffee and donuts together.
While speaking with the officers, I thanked them for protecting our city and expressed how much we appreciate their hard work. They smiled and shared that they usually deal with high-stress—and often dangerous—situations, so being surrounded by kindness and compliments was a rare and joyful experience for them.
As I sat down to enjoy my drink and pastry, a gentleman took a seat next to me and thanked me for offering kind words to the officers. At that time, I had no idea who he was. During our conversation, I mentioned that although the world can be harsh, even words of kindness can make it better. I pointed to the display for the Mother’s Peace Campaign and explained how we are putting it into practice through our words and actions.
As I stood up to leave, he handed me his business card and said, “That’s really impressive. Please contact me if there’s anything I can do to help.” When I looked at the card, I realized it read: Mayor of the City. I went back and asked if we could take a photo together, and he kindly agreed.
This experience reminded me that sharing kind words can truly uplift someone’s day—and sometimes, it can reach further than we ever expect. 💛
