Recently, during a conversation with my adolescent son, we said something hurtful,
I continued to be blunt and my son was skeptical.
I was at a loss for what to do as this kept happening over and over again.
I have found the answer in the language of mother’s love.
Coming into a room to go to bed,
I remember my commitment to practicing the words of Mother’s love at home.
I went back to the living room where my son was,
I said, “Oh, you’ve worked hard today! I’ll always pray. Stay strong and sleep well!”
After that, there was silence for a few seconds before they burst into laughter.
It’s been awhile since we last saw each other and smiled.
I’ve practiced it once, but from now on, I’ll continue to teach it to my son every day with the words of mother’s love.
With words of understanding, words of encouragement, and courage
I made a resolution to give the gift of warm love.
